NHMRC is reviewing the 2013 Australian Dietary Guidelines (the Guidelines). NHMRC, with advice from the Dietary Guidelines Expert Committee, has commissioned 4 evidence scoping reviews to address identified gaps in the existing evidence base.
The research questions for the 4 commissioned reviews are:
- In older adults: intake of protein-rich foods and development of sarcopenia (age-related muscle wasting)
- In older adults: intake of protein-rich foods and development of neurocognitive conditions or impairments (for example, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia)
- What studies are available on the environmental impact of consuming different dietary patterns, protein-rich foods and ultra-processed foods (UPFs) in the Australian context?
- What studies are available on the implications of different dietary patterns on socio-cultural acceptability, accessibility, equity, cost and affordability of food in the Australian context?
We are asking you to submit primary study citations that answer the research questions above. This will help the contracted reviewers identify studies that may need to be included in the new evidence reviews.
For more detail about what primary studies are eligible for inclusion visit, Public call two – primary research studies eligibility criteria and research questions.
Citations should be submitted via the form below.
There will be further opportunities to comment or contribute to the Guidelines review in the future. To keep up to date you can subscribe to our contact list.
This public call for evidence will close 3 pm AEST on Monday 18 August 2025. All submissions are anonymous.
