The TRIUMPH study–a low dose triple pill for hypertension.
Globally more than one billion people suffer from high blood pressure. The George Institute for Global Health has trialled a new low-dose three-in-one pill to treat hypertension, which could change the way high blood pressure is treated around the world. In 2016, the Triple Pill vs Usual Care Management for Patients with Mild-to-Moderate Hypertension (TRIUMPH) study was initiated in Sri Lanka to evaluate whether a triple low-dose pill would reduce blood pressure quickly and more effectively than standard care. NHMRC funded the TRIUMPH study through the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases, which supports international and interdisciplinary collaborations in research, focusing on chronic non-communicable diseases. Professors Anthony Rodgers and Anushka Patel and Dr Ruth Webster were also NHMRC awarded Fellowships.
