Special Initiative in Human Health and Environmental Change

The NHMRC Special Initiative in Human Health and Environmental Change will open for applications in Sapphire on 18 November 2020. Applications close at 5pm ACT local time on 31 March 2021, with minimum data due by 5pm (ACT local time) on 10 March 2021.

This initiative aims to boost research capacity and capability to improve Australia’s preparedness and responsiveness to human health threats from changing environmental conditions and extreme weather events.

Ideas Grants Funding Recommendations

Funding recommendations are being finalised and progressed through the approvals process. NHMRC anticipates releasing the funding outcomes under embargo before the end of the year.

Partnership Projects 2020 Peer Review Cycle (PRC) 2 – minimum data due

Minimum data for applicants in Partnership Projects 2020 PRC2 is due in Sapphire by 5pm (ACT local time) 18 November 2020.

Applications that do not meet the minimum data requirements by this date will not be accepted. Applications close at 5pm (ACT local time) on 2 December 2020.

Centres of Research Excellence (CRE) 2021 grant opportunity – minimum data due

The CRE 2021 grant opportunity opened in Sapphire on 21 October 2020. Minimum data is due in Sapphire by 5pm (ACT local time) 18 November 2020.

Applications that do not meet the minimum data requirements by this date will not be accepted. Applications close at 5pm (ACT local time) Wednesday 2 December 2020.

2020 Mental Health Research Grant Opportunity

The application due date for this grant opportunity is 9 December 2020, with minimum data due on 25 November 2020.

Clinical Trials and Cohort Studies Grants 2020 closing

The close date for Clinical Trials and Cohort Studies Grants 2020 is 5:00pm AEDT Wednesday 25 November 2020.

NHMRC strongly recommends those applicants who have not already submitted their application to work with their RAO to submit their applications as soon as possible, to allow time to resolve any issues that may arise during the certification and submission process.

Ideas Grants 2021 Peer Review Invitations

Thank you to those researchers who nominated themselves for consideration for participation in Ideas Grants next year as part of the recent self-nomination process. Expressions of interest to participate in Ideas Grants peer review in 2021 will start being sent from mid-December and continue into early 2021.

Ideas Grants Peer Review Survey

NHMRC thanks all members for their participation in this year’s Ideas Grants Peer Review. Members are encouraged to provide their feedback in the 2020 Ideas Grants Peer Review Survey, which was circulated to members via email on Tuesday 10 November. Responses to the survey will help inform future policy and process directions for the scheme, so NHMRC would appreciate feedback from as many peer reviewers as possible. The survey will be available until 11:59pm AEDT Sunday 22 November 2020.

Public consultation – Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes a draft new section to ban the use of animals for cosmetic testing

NHMRC has released the DRAFT Section 7: Cosmetic Testing of the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes, 8th edition (2013) for public consultation. The proposed new section to the Code is part of the Australian Government’s implementation of a ban on the use of animals for cosmetic testing.
