We provide resources to assist researchers and members of animal ethics committees (AECs) to consider the ethical and welfare issues about the use of genetically modified and cloned animals.
If you are involved with the use of genetically modified or cloned animals, you may have been using the Guidelines for the generation, breeding, care and use of genetically modified and cloned animals for scientific purposes (2007) (the GM Guidelines). However, because some of the information in these guidelines is out dated, the document was revoked in 2017.
Many of the recommendations in the GM Guidelines have been incorporated into the 8th edition of the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes (2013) (the Code). To assist you, we have provided a map of how the GM Guideline recommendations are reflected in the Code.
We have also extracted the appendices from the GM Guidelines that may continue to be useful. These are:
