Synergy Grants support outstanding multidisciplinary teams of investigators to work together to answer major questions that cannot be answered by a single investigator.
The intended outcomes of the Synergy Grant scheme are:
- multidisciplinary research that addresses major problems in all areas of human health and medical research, from discovery to translation
- highly collaborative teams of diverse researchers including by gender, career stage and cultural background, working together to address major problems in human health.
To apply for a Synergy Grant a Sapphire account is required. If you are not yet registered with Sapphire, please register.
Funding support
Synergy Grants may be funded by, or in conjunction with, other organisations. These grants offer opportunities to researchers whose work is relevant to the priorities and research interests of the partner organisations.

Key changes
2024
Each year, NHMRC seeks feedback from peer reviewers and receives feedback from applicants on peer review policies and processes. This feedback contributes to a detailed policy analysis to determine whether NHMRC’s grant program is achieving its objectives and if any policy adjustments are required.
Key changes are detailed in section 2.1 of the Synergy Grants 2024 Guidelines available from GrantConnect.
