Meetings 25 to 28 of the Dietary Guidelines Expert Committee (Expert Committee) were held from April to July 2026 by videoconference.

The Expert Committee considered the:

  • final reports of the commissioned health outcome evidence reviews
  • various Evidence-to-Decision (EtD) frameworks for priority research questions, and for questions being addressed via an adopt/adapt or good practice statement approach
  • draft chapters for the Scientific Evidence Report.

The Expert Committee also noted the appointment of the Dietary Guidelines Community Panel to provide targeted advice on how recommendations are communicated to the public and to review guidelines resources from a consumer’s perspective. Adjunct Associate Professor Trevor Webb is the Panel Chair and a member of the Expert Committee.

Next steps

The Expert Committee continue to review the evidence ahead of drafting recommendations.

Draft Guidelines are anticipated to be released for public consultation in late 2026. As the volume of papers supporting the draft Guidelines will be substantial, and because the public consultation period is likely to include the summer holiday period, consultation will be extended beyond the legislated minimum of 30 days.

Release of the final Guidelines will occur after due consideration of the public consultation feedback.

Next meeting

The next meeting of the Expert Committee is scheduled for August 2026.
