The Consumer Engagement Award recognises an individual, a group of individuals or an organisation that has made a long-term contribution to consumer and community involvement in health and medical research.  

The awardee(s) will have been any or all of the following:

  • strong advocates for health and medical research
  • inspirational role models for health consumers
  • instrumental in improving or supporting community interactions with health and medical research.

Nominations will be considered by the NHMRC CEO, who will select the awardee in consultation with the Chair of NHMRC's Consumer and community Advisory group. The following criteria will also be considered:

  • the impact of their contribution to Australian health and medical research and its outcomes
  • demonstrated leadership, mediation, innovation and creativity
  • personal, community and professional achievements
  • residence of the nominee(s) in Australia
  • any contributions to NHMRC.
