Human Research Ethics Application form update and implementation of the 2025 National Statement
The Human Research Ethics Application (HREA) form has been updated to v1.6 to align with the revised National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research 2025 (the National Statement). The effective date for implementation of the revised National Statement is 23 June 2026.
The updated HREA is now available and includes changes to the Participant and Participant-Specific sections, and minor updates to guidance text and National Statement references. Enhancements have also been made to multi-factor authentication for HREA accounts.
Updates on licenced versions of HREA will be implemented as soon as possible.
A transition period for use between HREA v1.5 and v1.6 will be in place until 25 September 2026. Researchers should contact their institution’s research office for institution-specific advice.
For any questions about these changes, please visit NHMRC’s HREA webpage or contact help@hrea.gov.au.
