The Australian Health Ethics Committee (AHEC) has approved minor amendments to Chapter 3.4: Human biospecimens in laboratory based research of the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research. The amendments are minor and do not change the meaning or intent of the guidance provided. The amendments align this chapter with the overall revision of Section 3 of the National Statement and include:
- reordering of paragraphs to align with the new structure as used in the remainder of the revised Section 3
consequential changes to cross-references resulting from the reordering of paragraphs
retitling of this chapter to Chapter 3.2: Human biospecimens in laboratory based research, once the remaining revised chapters of Section 3 are released.
AHEC is satisfied that the proposed amendments do not change the intent or substance of the current ethics guidance. As the amendments are of minor significance, AHEC is dispensing with the requirements for consultation in accordance with section 14B of the National Health and Medical Research Council Act 1992.
The revised chapter 3.4 will be issued in conjunction with the release of the revised Section 3 of the National Statement, upon completion of the review.
