Proposed changes to the infant pneumococcal vaccination schedule recommendations released for public consultation

The Department of Health on behalf of the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) has released proposed changes to the infant pneumococcal vaccination schedule recommendations for public consultation between 1 September 2017 and 2 October 2017. ATAGI will be seeking NHMRC approval of the guideline recommendations under section 14A of the National Health and Medical Research Council Act 1992. Early notification of RFT for new NHMRC Health Evidence Panel

In October, NHMRC plans to advertise an RFT for an open tender process to create a new Health Evidence and Methods Panel. NHMRC has hosted a panel since 2009, and is now scoping requirements for a new panel that will replace the current Health Evidence Panel when it expires in May 2018.  These panels form an essential element of NHMRC’s health advice development processes, supporting the translation of research into policy and practice. New funding investment in Dementia research

Today, Minister Hunt announced more than $40 million for medical research projects into dementia. 45 projects will receive funding to prevent, diagnose, treat and manage dementia, including its most common form, Alzheimer’s disease. These projects are part of the $200 million boost to dementia research announced in the 2014-15 Budget. NHMRC to announce changes to its grant funding program

NHMRC is moving forward with improvements to its grant funding program to ensure it continues to support the best Australian health and medical research and researchers. A restructured grant funding program will be implemented in late 2018 – early 2019, for peer review during 2019 and funding in 2020. Budget 2017: NHMRC welcomes the first round of expenditure from the Medical Research Future Fund

The Australian Government announced the first round of investments from the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) in the 2017 Budget. This MRFF funding is in addition to the Australian Government’s funding of around $800m per year to NHMRC for health and medical research.
