Save the date—2017 Annual Research Translation Symposium

NHMRC and the Lowitja Institute will co-host the 6th Annual Research Translation Symposium in 2017. The Symposium will be held in Brisbane on 14–15 November 2017 with a focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health research and knowledge translation.
More information and call for abstracts will be released in March 2017.

Launch of National Scientific Committees pilot

NHMRC, with the assistance of Bellberry Limited has established two National Scientific Committees as part of a pilot project to provide expert advice to investigators and Human Research Ethics Committees (HRECs) on complex genetic studies and clinical trials involving medical devices.

The National Scientific Committees will provide a scientific opinion on research proposals as requested by HRECs or investigators (researchers or trial sponsors).

While NHMRC supervised the development of the Committees and the appointment of members; the not-for-profit, private ethics review organisation Bellberry Limited will undertake the day-to-day management. Bellberry Limited already hosts a number of HRECs.

Sponsors and researchers can now request a review of their proposal online and this service is at no cost to users. Further information on the pilot program is now available.

Note Project Grants minimum data deadline

Minimum data requirements must be met and entered in RGMS by 5pm (AEDT) Wednesday 15 February 2017. Applications lodged by the final Project Grant application closing date Wednesday 15 March 2017 that do not have the minimum data requirements lodgement date, Wednesday 15 February 2017, will  not be accepted.

Updated RGMS RAO User Guide now available

The Applying for Grants User Guide for the use of Research Administration Officers has been updated and is online.

Project Grants: Assigners’ Day 2017

There will be an online ‘virtual’ meeting on 27 April 2017. Travel to Canberra will not be required.  Further details will be provided once Assigners’ Academy membership is confirmed.

NHMRC - European Union Collaborative Research Grants for funding commencing in 2017 is open in RGMS

The NHMRC—European Union Collaborative Research Grants for funding commencing in 2017 opened Wednesday 25 January 2017 and will close at 5pm (AEDT) on Thursday 2 March 2017.

Scheme documentation can be found on the NHMRC website. All applications must be submitted online through RGMS.

NHMRC Joint Call for Research with A*STAR, Singapore – now open

The NHMRC/ A*STAR Joint Call for Research on Molecular Mechanisms of Metabolic Diseases is now open. Information on how to apply can be found on the NHMRC website. Minimum data requirements are due in RGMS on Wednesday 1 March 2017.

Closure of the Human Research Ethics Portal (HREP)

NHMRC has closed the HREP permanently as all relevant information has been updated and is now available on the NHMRC website.
