22 March 2021

Welcome to Tracker, NHMRC’s fortnightly newsletter with the latest information on major activities and funding opportunities.

Since starting as a young paediatrician in South Africa, Professor Ben Marais has been on a mission to raise awareness of childhood tuberculosis (TB) and the transmissibility of drug-resistant TB – having seen first-hand the deadly impacts when this disease is left undiagnosed and untreated.

“Wealthy countries with good socioeconomic conditions and health care systems like Australia are at low risk of major TB outbreaks — but Australia can make a big contribution through research and advocacy.

“We all need to work together to contain the emergence and spread of deadly diseases like drug-resistant TB and COVID-19.”

Professor Marais is one of NHMRC’s Ten of the Best. Read more about his research into the elimination of TB

GACD Launches Implementation Science e-Hub

NHMRC is a member of the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases, a collaboration of major international research funding agencies that support joint funding calls and research capacity building activities to address chronic, non-communicable diseases. The alliance focuses on implementation research in low- and middle- income countries (LMICs) and in vulnerable and Indigenous populations in high-income countries (HICs).

The GACD has announced the launch of the Implementation Science e-Hub. The e-Hub is a free, virtual platform for knowledge and skill development in implementation research. It is intended for researchers, students, policymakers and practitioners at any stage in their career, from anywhere in the world, interested in improving their knowledge of implementation research, especially its application for the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases in low-resource settings.

For further information, visit the GACD website.

Sapphire – updating your publications

NHMRC recently launched new functionality allowing researchers to link an Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) to their Sapphire Profile.

In total, Sapphire currently supports three methods to add publications to a Profile:

  1. Manually adding each Publication entry individually,
  2. Importing an EndNote Library, or
  3. Linking your ORCiD ID to your Sapphire profile and importing selected ‘Works’.*

* - Unless your ORCID Works already have Contributors added, Authors will need to be manually entered following the publication import into Sapphire from ORCID.

More information on updating publications is available in the Researcher/My Profile section of the Sapphire Knowledge Base webpage, or by contacting the Research Help Centre - help@nhmrc.gov.au
