Eligibility for Ideas Grants 2020 due to COVID-19

NHMRC recognises that COVID-19 is an exceptional circumstance that requires a flexible approach to eligibility in the 2020 round. We have updated the Ideas Grants 2020 Guidelines to include guidance for NHMRC grant holders whose existing grant portfolio would make them ineligible to apply for an Ideas Grant in the 2020 application round, if they extended a current grant.

The guidance is specifically for those who are in their final year of funding (e.g. for a Project Grant or Program Grant) and need to extend their grants due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but this extension could affect their eligibility.  This flexibility is only expected to affect a very small number of applicants (for example, those who hold both an Ideas Grant and multiple final-year Project Grants, or those who hold a final-year Program Grant, which would make them ineligible to apply in the 2020 application round if they extended those grants).  An additional FAQ has been published to provide further context.

Refer to Ideas Grants Addendum 4 - GO3777 and the updated FAQ document now available on GrantConnect.

NHMRC has today made further improvements to core minimum data displayed on the minimum data dashboard, with data from applications now updated in near real-time.

The Development Grants Sapphire pilot is continuing with the launch this week of the Assessment module. Peer reviewers will provide scores, comments and any necessary updates to application budget requests.

Sapphire resources are available, to assist peer reviewers in navigating the assessment module, including Help (a list of frequently asked questions), how-to videos and access to the Research Help Centre on 1800 500 983 or email help@nhmrc.gov.au for further information or assistance.
