Investigator Grants 2020 Update
Funding outcomes for NHMRC’s Investigator Grant and Investigator Grants: MRFF Priority Round were released under strict embargo on Friday 24 April, 2020.
All applicants are reminded that strict embargo remains until after the grants have been announced. A definition of ‘under embargo’ can be found on NHMRC’s website.

Eligibility - Investigator Grant Awardees applying for Ideas Grants
Recipients of NHMRC and MRFF Investigator Grants are reminded that as per section 4.3 of the Investigator Grants 2020 Grant Guidelines, CIs (CIA-CIJ) who concurrently (in the same funding round) apply for an Investigator Grant and an Ideas Grant and are successful with both applications, will only be offered the Investigator Grant.

As such, recent Investigator Grant awardees are encouraged to remove themselves from any active Ideas Grants applications.  If they do not, the entire Ideas Grant application will be ruled ineligible and removed from the round as per sections 4.3.1 and 4.3.2 of the Investigator Grants 2020 Grant Guidelines.

Ideas Grants application dates
NHMRC Ideas Grant scheme dates for 2020 are as follows:

  • Minimum data due on Wednesday 13 May 2020
  • Round closes on Wednesday 10 June 2020.

Ideas Grants minimum data deadline
Minimum data must be entered in NHMRC’s granting system by the specified due date. This will assist NHMRC to confirm panel membership based on the spread of anticipated applications and recruit more peer reviewers in particular areas if required.

Applications that fail to satisfy this requirement will not be accepted. Applicants must complete the required fields with correct information. Using placeholder text such as “text”, “synopsis” or “xx” etc. is not acceptable as minimum data.

Listing all Chief Investigators on grant applications at Minimum Data is also important to assist RAOs to undertake eligibility checks and resolve issues before grants are submitted.

Minimum data fields for Ideas Grants 2020 are indicated in Sapphire by a blue flag.

Failure to provide this data in time will result in the application being removed from the funding round.

RAOs are not required to certify applications for the purpose of minimum data. Applications should only be certified once complete and ready for submission.

2020 Ideas Grants Peer Review Membership
Membership for Ideas Grants is currently being reviewed and further invitations will be sent following the minimum data due date with appointments to be confirmed following the conflict of interest and suitability survey in June. NHMRC is conscious of the impact that COVID-19 is having and anticipate that membership will be finalised by the end of June. Please advise NHMRC as soon as possible of any changes to your availability for Ideas Grants peer review
