Sapphire update

NHMRC is continuing work in anticipation of launching Sapphire in the coming weeks, pending final testing. NHMRC will announce confirmation of the launch at a later date.

In preparation for the potential launch, NHMRC will copy RGMS users’ CV/profile data from RGMS to Sapphire after 5pm (AEDT) Wednesday 12 February 2020. RGMS users will not be affected by the data migration activity.

Synergy Grants 2020 key application dates 

The Synergy Grant scheme for funding commencing in 2021 is scheduled to open 26 February 2020. Minimum data is due 25 March 2020 and applications close 22 April 2020.
 
Update on Synergy Grant Review Panel (GRP) membership
NHMRC thanks all those who have accepted a preliminary invitation to participate as a Synergy Grants GRP member in 2020. NHMRC will review its membership requirements following the minimum data due date on 25 March 2020 and confirm panel appointments shortly after. Please advise NHMRC as soon as possible of any changes to your availability for peer review.

Investigator Grants 2020 update

The Investigator Grants 2020 round closed for applications Thursday 28 November 2019 with 1,780 applications submitted and progressing to peer review.

The conflict of interest process is complete and assessments are now underway.

Applications have been allocated to five person panels of approximately 25-35 applications.

These panels have been formed to ensure maximum suitability and minimal to no conflicts of interest for all applications while also adhering to NHMRC’s GRP membership principles (state, gender, institution etc.).

Targeted Call for Research: National Network for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health researchers – EOI close this Wednesday

This TCR aims to bring together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health research groups and their support networks to create a structure that builds capacity and improves the capability of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health researchers.

The call for expression of interest (EOI) will close at 5pm (AEDT) on Wednesday 12 February 2020.

Open MRFF grant opportunities

The following MRFF grant opportunities are currently open for applications.

  • 2020 Stem Cell Therapies grant opportunity
  • 2020 Traumatic Brain Injury grant opportunity

The application due date for these grant opportunities is Wednesday 4 March 2020, with minimum data due Wednesday 26 February 2020.

  • 2019 Indigenous Health Research grant opportunity

Ensuring that health and medical research in Australia is of the highest quality is a priority for NHMRC. The report from NHMRC’s Research Quality workshop outlines key messages, activities and initiatives within the research sector, and potential opportunities for collaboration to ensure the conduct of high quality research. Proposed changes to the pneumococcal recommendations of the Australian immunisation handbook 

The Department of Health, on behalf of the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI), has released proposed changes to the recommended use of pneumococcal vaccines for public consultation between 31 January 2020 and 1 March 2020.

ATAGI will be seeking NHMRC’s approval of the guideline recommendations under section 14A of the National Health and Medical Research Council Act 1992.
