Homeopathy

The NHMRC Strategic Plan 2010-2012 identifies “examining alternative therapy claims” as a major health issue for consideration.

In addressing this health issue, NHMRC has commenced work on a project to evaluate the evidence underpinning the practice of homeopathy. As part of this project, NHMRC will undertake a comprehensive search of the literature to develop health advice for health professionals and the Australian community to assist them in making informed choices about healthcare. An NHMRC reference group is currently being established to oversee this work.

NHMRC is also consulting with two key homeopathy groups: the Australian Homoeopathic Association and the Australian Medical Fellowship of Homeopathy. Through public consultation envisaged for early to mid 2012, NHMRC will invite practising homeopaths and the Australian community to consider a draft statement on homeopathy and provide feedback.
