Synopsis of publication:

The National Health and Medical Research Council's publication, Boxing injuries, is available through the Australian Government Publishing Services.

Since the Health Aspects of Boxing report (1986), considerable new scientific and medical information has been published.

Worldwide, medical organisations have renewed calls to discourage the sport.

While traditional boxing has been subject to substantial control, the potential for injury remains of concern. Other contact sports such as kickboxing are not included in legislation. There are many better sports for Australians to play.

This report updates the previous publication and updates new directions for those concerned with public health and legislation appropriate for boxing.
