Synopsis of publication:

This research workshop was initiated to focus attention on tackling the burden of chronic disease in Australia, through both prevention and more effective management.

At question was the adequacy of our knowledge and information on which to respond to chronic disease. How well is evidence in practice being applied; how might investment in prevention and health promotion be more appropriately made given the increasing financial demands in acute health care? What are the potential costs to Australia of not actively pursuing reform in the health care system?
