Synopsis of publication:

The report 'Men and mental health' was written by a number of contributing authors. The report looks at male mental health from several angles, such as, mental health problems with affect males particularly, factors affecting male mental health and the effects of men's mental health on others.

Themes include childhood mental health problems, suicide, alcohol and drug abuse and anti-social behavior.

Factors affecting male mental health are identified as war, unemployment, hazardous occupations, homelessness, divorce and specific cultural problems affecting Aboriginal communities and men from a non-English speaking background.

The report aims to raise awareness and encourage debate on the issue of male mental health in Australia.
