The aims of this document are to:
- promote high standards in the care and use of Australian native mammals for scientific purposes;
- provide general information to assist scientists beginning to work with a native species;
- promote the accumulation of reliable scientific knowledge about Australian native mammals;
- promote the use of that knowledge for the welfare, conservation or preservation of the species, and for human benefit.
