The guidelines concerning ATSI research, outline the steps researchers should follow when working with communities, taking into account the cultural differences and sensitivities that have been the crux of the problems in the past, and identify some of the reasons research into the health of these communities has been hampered.

Synopsis of publication:

The relationships between modern science and indigenous cultures is often stormy. But in the case of health research and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) communities, new ethical guidelines have been set to pave the way for greater understanding and tolerance on both sides.

The guidelines concerning ATSI research, outline the steps researchers should follow when working with communities, taking into account the cultural differences and sensitivities that have been the crux of the problems in the past, and identify some of the reasons research into the health of these communities has been hampered.
