NHMRC Policy on the Care of Dogs used for Scientific Purposes

These Guidelines were revised in 2009. These revised guidelines may be found here

The use of companion animals such as dogs for medical and scientific research and teaching is strongly opposed by some members of the general public, and is generally a highly emotive and controversial issue.

This policy has been developed by the Animal Welfare Committee (AWC) in response to the Committee's concern about the housing and care of dogs in some research and teaching institutions.
