Synopsis of publication:
The National Health and Medical Research Council in conjunction with the Australian Cancer Network has developed Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Management of Cutaneous Melanoma.
The guidelines have been developed to assist general practitioners, dermatologists, surgeons and others in clinical decision making when managing patients with melanoma. However, while the guidelines represent a statement of best practice based on the latest available evidence, they are not intended to replace the health professional's judgement in each individual case.
The basic premise for the development of the Guidelines was that they be based on the best available evidence and be developed through a multidisciplinary consensus approach involving surgeons, dermatologists, pathologists, general practitioners, medical and radiation oncologists, palliative care specialists, oncology nurses and advocates for patients and the community.
