Synopsis of publication:

Guidelines for the prevention, early detection and management of colorectal cancer: A guide for patients, their families and friends have been developed in order to help people understand what bowel cancer is and to inform them of the various treatments and diagnostic tests available for bowel cancer.

The Guidelines identify the major risk factors for the disease and provide evidence-based recommendations on prevention, screening, diagnosis and management of the disease for the medical profession, including non-surgical therapies, such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and psychosocial care.

The Guidelines are intended to assist patients in making decisions about the treatment and management of their condition. The Guidelines also provide information to individuals and families on reducing the risk of bowel cancer through a healthy lifestyle, and the importance of early detection.

The Guidelines were developed by the Australian Cancer Network, Clinical Oncological Society of Australia and National Cancer Control Initiative and form part of the three document series of Guidelines for the prevention, early detection and management of colorectal cancer.
