Synopsis of publication:

This booklet talks about acute pain. It explains the goals of pain control and the various types of treatment available. It aims to help you, your family and carers understand:

  • why pain control is important for your recovery as well as your comfort; and
  • how to play an active role in choosing options for treating your pain.

The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) has produced Acute Pain Management: Scientific Evidence, which reviews the available scientific evidence and information on this subject. Acute Pain Management: Information for Consumers and Acute Pain Management: Information for General Practitioner are summaries designed to allow quick reference to Acute Pain Management: Scientific Evidence.
