Synopsis of publication:
The guidelines are one of the first set to be issued under a national program for developing clinical practice guidelines.
The primary objective of these and other guidelines, is to achieve better health outcomes by improving the practice of health professionals, and by better informing consumers about treatment options.
The guidelines follow the methodology for developing guidelines recommended in another NHMRC publication, Guidelines for the development and implementation of clinical practice guidelines: they are evidence-based and were developed by a multi-disciplinary process involving all stakeholders, including consumers.
Their scope is to more clearly define the role of bypass surgery and coronary angioplasty in the management of coronary heart disease and will be useful for both health professionals and consumers.
