The Translating Research Into Practice (TRIP) Fellowships are now closed.

NICS is pleased to announce that NHMRC has launched the new Translating Research into Practice (TRIP) Fellowship scheme for 2010.

The principles, aims and education components of the TRIP Fellowship scheme are essentially the same as those for the NICS Fellowships, which they will replace.

The TRIP Fellowship scheme will support early-to-mid career clinical leaders in researching approaches to applying evidence to improve clinical practice. Fellows will develop specific knowledge, practical skills and expertise related to the implementation of evidence-based practice.

The Fellowship applications close at 5pm (EDST) 5 March 2010, for funding commencing in October 2010. The funding policy, guide to applicants and application forms are available here.

Please note that this scheme is not currently part of the NHMRC's new online Research Grants Management System (RGMS).

NICS Fellowships

The NICS Fellowships were established in 2003 and provide an opportunity for future leaders in Australian health care to develop their knowledge and expertise in closing the gaps between evidence and practice.

What NICS aims to achieve

NICS' goal in offering the Fellowships is to identify and nurture potential leaders in evidence-based practice, and to build a community of practitioners with the expertise to support other health professionals overcome the barriers to applying evidence.

This is consistent with NICS' strategic goal of building national capacity and leadership for evidence implementation in clinical practice.

How the program works

Successful applicants are responsible for designing and executing an implementation project aimed at improving practical outcomes for patients by increasing the uptake of high quality research evidence in a particular health care setting. Fellows are supported with an annual stipend based on current salary. Ongoing professional development and training programs are provided, including high profile networking opportunities and a series of exclusive master-classes with the international health experts NICS brings to Australia.

A mentoring component to assist the Fellows in their professional development is a critical part of the program. Senior figures in Australian health care are appointed as external mentors, providing Fellows with support and guidance about ways to initiate and manage change within systems.

The NICS Fellowships are half time and are awarded for a tenure of two years.
