Closing gaps grants

Emergency nursing grants 2006

In October 2006, NICS offered four Emergency Care – Closing Gaps grants to emergency nurses to close gaps between evidence and practice in emergency care. The winners of these nursing grants were:

Stephen Wake, Noarlunga Health Services (South Australia)
Project title: Nursing Application of the NEXUS Spinal Rules in Minor Trauma – Implementing Available Evidence

David Corkhill & Susie Fullbrook, Gold Coast Hospital (Queensland)
Project title: Clearing the C-spine in the alert and stable trauma patients by emergency nurses

Tanya Georgia, Nambour General Hospital (Queensland)
Project title: Implementing the use of metered dose inhaler plus spacer for delivering beta-2 agonists

Bree McGillivray, Northern Health (Victoria)
Project title: Improving the ED management of acute stroke by prevention of early complications

Emergency medicine grants 2006

In 2006 NICS awarded grants to emergency medicine trainees to undertake 12 month projects to close gaps between evidence and practice in emergency care. The completed grant projects are:

Ballarat Base Hospital (Victoria)
Project title: introducing CT Scans into a clinical pathway to manage clinical fractured scaphoid, using meditutes and patient specific reminders to implement the evidence

Prince of Wales Hospital (New South Wales)
Project title: STOP (Sensible Test Ordering Practice) Radiology Project
