Professor Jeremy Grimshaw: Towards a better understanding of professional behaviour change
In this seminar held on 3 April 2008, Professor Grimshaw discussed the theories and frameworks that can be useful in understanding and influencing the complex field of professional behaviour change.
Professor Grimshaw is Director of the Clinical Epidemiology Program of the Ottawa Health Research Institute and Professor of the Department of Medicine, University of Ottawa and Co-ordinating Editor of Cochrane Effective Practice and Organisation of Care Group (EPOC). He holds a Canada Research Chair in Health Knowledge Transfer and Uptake. Previously he was the Methodological Advisor to the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network and a member of the Appraisal of Guidelines Research and Evaluation (AGREE) collaboration that developed the gold standard appraisal instrument for clinical guidelines.
Professor Grimshaw was a key speaker at a Knowledge Translation workshop held in Melbourne on 14 March, together with Professor Nicholas Mays, Professor of Health Policy, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. This workshop was organised by the Cochrane Effective Practice and Organisation of Care (EPOC) Satellite in Australia.
Professor Allan Best, Canada: Systems Thinking for Improving Health: Understanding both Process and Outcome
At this presentation held on 31 March 2008, Professor Allan Best, Senior Scientist in the Centre for Clinical Epidemiology and Evaluation, Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute, Canada, outlined his research on using systems thinking and organisational change to create the teams, models, structures and tools that foster effective knowledge to action for health policy and programs. The event was co-hosted by NHMRC-NICS and the Australian Institute for Health Policy Studies.
