Institutional approaches to pain assessment & management
This 2003 systematic review was commissioned prior to the commencement of the NICS pain management Project and seeks to identify strategies that have been successful in introducing and sustaining institutional strategies to pain assessment and management.
What the review found
Attempts have been made at a hospital wide and at a clinical service level to address pain management. Many studies have provided generally low level evidence that, despite attempts to instigate greater awareness of pain in healthcare institutions patient pain is often unrelieved.
