More evidence is needed about the use of naltrexone implants in the treatment of addiction

Claims that NHMRC has an ideological set against naltrexone implants are incorrect and are not helping practitioners or patients understand the treatment options that are currently available for opioid addiction. NHMRC has been clear that some early studies on the efficacy and safety of naltrexone implants are promising. Use of Cultured Cell Lines for Research

National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) has received high-level representations regarding problems associated with the use of contaminated and incorrectly identified cultured cell lines in research. These representations highlighted the extent of cell line contamination with either mycoplasma or other cell lines and the problems that can arise in interpreting data from their use. It has become necessary today to re-issue assessors’ reports to approximately 1,500 Project Grant applicants. This was needed because RGMS did not compile the assessors’ reports properly for around half of those applications. In some cases, no information from the assessors’ reports was extracted, in others information was only partially extracted or duplicated. Problems with Applicant Responses

Some assessors’ reports have been incorrectly compiled in RGMS when invitations for Applicant Responses were issued.  This problem has now been fixed. For everyone who has received a letter inviting them to submit an Applicant Response to assessors’ reports, before midday Wednesday 20 July 2011, the following changed processes will apply: Over the next 24 hours, we will reissue all previously issued assessors’ reports and invitations to submit Applicant Responses...

We need all assessors’ reports for Project Grants by 11 July 2011, at the latest. We are very grateful for whatever support you have provided already.
