Educators and staff working in childhood education and care services will soon have access to new principles to prevent the spread of infection in education and care services.

A revised fifth edition of Staying healthy in early childhood education and care: Preventing infectious diseases in education and care services is now available for public consultation. The new edition builds on the current popular resource Staying Healthy in Childcare.

Professor Warwick Anderson, Chief Executive Officer of the NHMRC, launched the draft for public consultation today.

"Every parent and child carer knows how easy the spread of infection is in education and care settings. It is not just difficult for the affected child.  Parents and carers, as well as other children are also vulnerable," said Professor Anderson.

"The principles outlined in this new edition are intended to make infection control simple and practical, so they can be easily followed in education and care settings."

Information about the new edition and consultation is available from the NHMRC website.

Consultation opens on 21 November 2011 and closes on 16 January 2012.
