Professor Jamie Rossjohn from Monash University has been awarded the 2007 Commonwealth Health Minister’s Award for Excellence in Health and Medical Research.
The medal and $50,000 prize is awarded each year to an outstanding Australian health and medical researcher during Medical Research Week.
Professor Rossjohn is one of Australia’s eminent infectious disease experts. He is investigating the molecular basis of diseases such as listeria, streptococcus and tuberculosis and has published over 100 papers in Australia and internationally.
He has also played an active role in mentoring Australian post-doctoral researchers and PhD students as well as promoting science to primary school students.
The Australian Society for Medical Research’s Medical Research Week this year runs from
1 - 8 June and includes various events around Australia.
