Minor amendments to the Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Management of Overweight and Obesity in Adults, Adolescents and Children in Australia (2013)

The National Health and Medical Research Council has recommended minor amendments to the Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Management of Overweight and Obesity in Adults, Adolescents and Children in Australia and the NHMRC CEO has approved these amendments under section 7(1)(a) of the National Health and Medical Research Council Act 1992 (NHMRC Act).

The amendments to the Guidelines are:

  • Alterations to the section detailing follow up post-bariatric surgery (page 57), including removal of all references to specific postoperative nutritional complications, and a statement added to the guidelines to clarify responsibility for post-surgical monitoring of complications.
    • Rationale: in view of comments provided by a concerned Australian practitioner the Obesity Guidelines Development Committee felt that this section could be open to misinterpretation and was unnecessary in the context of a guideline written for primary care.
  • Correction of a typographical error, to correctly read pulmonary hypertension (page 55)

As these amendments are of minor significance, NHMRC is dispensing with the requirements for consultation under section 14B of the NHMRC Act.

The revised Guidelines can be accessed on the NHMRC website.
