Grant Announcement: October 2012

On 19 October 2012, Minister for Health, the Hon Tanya Plibersek MP, will announce the outcomes for the following grant schemes:

  • Project Grants
  • Research Fellowships
  • Practitioner Fellowships
  • Career Development Fellowships
  • Early Career Fellowships
  • NHMRC-European Union Collaborative Research Grants

Information about how applicants will be informed about their individual application will be provided by the NHMRC nearer the date.

Ministerial announcement: Council and Principal Committee appointments

Last week, Minister for Health, the Hon Tanya Plibersek MP, welcomed the new Chair of Council, Justice Annabelle Bennett AO and the other new appointments to Council and the Principal Committees for the 2012-15 Triennium.

Justice Bennett has a record of service to the Australian community, through the Federal Court, the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, and her roles as an arbitrator and her work with universities and non-government organisations.

The new Chair of Research Committee is Professor Kathryn North AM. Professor North is the Douglas Burrows Professor of Paediatrics and Child Health as well as an Associate Dean at the University of Sydney. She is also the Head of the Institute for Neuroscience and Muscle Research at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

Ministerial announcement: Centres of Research Excellence (CRE) Scheme

The outcomes of the 2011 round of the CRE scheme were also announced last week by Minister Plibersek. A total of 17 applications were successful out of 83 applications received for this round.

The successful CREs include some special interest areas including mental health, Indigenous health, obesity policy and electromagnetic bioeffects.

NHMRC John Cade Fellowship in Mental Health Research: opening 15 August

NHMRC is seeking senior mental health researchers with an exemplary international record of achievement and expertise in innovative research and research translation.

The deadline for applications is 17 October 2012. Minimum application data needs to be entered into RGMS by 12 September 2012.

Full application documentation will be available on 15 August 2012 from the NHMRC website.

2012 Early Career Fellowships (ECF) Peer Review Update

The peer review of ECF applications is now complete. Funding recommendations are now being prepared for Research Committee, Council and the Minister.

NHMRC would like to thank all members of the Peer Review Panels for their time and commitment to this process.

Details about the successful recipients are expected to be released in October.
