Australian Immunisation Handbook 9th Edition

The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI), an advisory committee appointed by the Minister for Health and Ageing, is responsible for the development and revision of the Australian Immunisation Handbook 9th Edition (the Handbook). The Handbook is designed as a general guide to inform a wide target audience of health professionals on the safest and most effective vaccination strategies using the highest quality evidence available. The Handbook is a stand-alone document and, while it has similarities to some overseas guidelines, it is written specifically for Australia.

The recommendations in the Handbook comprise a guideline within the meaning of the National Health and Medical Research Act (the Act). As part of the NHMRC's processes for guideline development, the Handbook underwent six weeks of public consultation and an Independent Review, followed by the NHMRC Council's recommendation to the CEO to approve the Guidelines under section 14A of the Act.

The Handbook received full and final NHMRC approval on 11 October 2007.

The Honourable Nicola Roxon, Minister for Health and Ageing, launched the Handbook on 8 April 2008.
