The National Health and Medical Research Council hosted the fourth annual National HREC Chairs’ Roundtable meeting in August 2008. The details of the meeting are as follows:

Date: Thursday 21st August 2008
Venue: Seminar Hall, Institute of Advanced Study, Bundoora Campus, Latrobe University, VIC
Time: 9.00am – 5.30pm

The organising committee for the Roundtable was co-chaired by Dr Garry Pearce (Chair, Concord Repatriation General Hospital HREC) and A/Prof Lyn Angel (Chair, Charles Sturt University HREC).  In planning for this year, the organising committee has carefully considered the feedback from last year’s Roundtable and recognises the need to provide for extensive discussion time.

We also want to take this opportunity to inform you that the Roundtable was held in conjunction with a forum on 'Social Science Research and the National Statement' (SSRNS), also held at La Trobe University, Bundoora Campus, Melbourne, on Friday 22nd August 2008.

The SSRNS Forum was organised by a small group of Human Research Ethics Committee Chairs and researchers. The group is being chaired by Prof Ian Richards, who is also the Chair of University of South Australia’s HREC. The SSRNS Forum aims to facilitate a constructive discussion between experienced researchers of the issues involved in qualitative research, research ethics and the National Statement.
