Specific guidelines for research involving humans

Specific guidelines have been developed to make the application of ethical guidelines more relevant to the particular research contexts. The guidelines are regularly reviewed to ensure that they are current with changing medical issues, technology and research practise.

Specific guidelines have been developed to encourage ethical practice, in particular research situations. Specific guidelines are used in conjunction with the National Statement and are held at equivalent level to National Statement.

Assisted reproductive technology

Privacy

The Australian Code for the Responsible conduct of Research (the Statement) provides guidance to institutions in developing their own procedures and guidelines by providing a comprehensive framework of minimum acceptable standards. The Statement is currently under review.

Research involving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

Values and Ethics: Guidelines for Ethical Conduct in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Research contains guidelines for ethical health research on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In accordance with guidance from Aboriginal people it is written around a framework of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander values and principles.

Quality assurance

This document provides advice to institutions, Human Research Ethics Committees and health care professionals about how to identify when quality assurance proposals require ethical review.
