The use of native mammals in Australia is governed by various State laws and guidelines, and by the Australian code of practice for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes.

Synopsis

The aims of this document are to:

  • promote high standards in the care and use of Australian native mammals for scientific purposes;
  • provide general information to assist scientists beginning to work with a native species;
  • promote the accumulation of reliable scientific knowledge about Australian native mammals;
  • promote the use of that knowledge for the welfare, conservation or preservation of the species, and for human benefit.
