Synopsis

The Human Research Ethics Handbook was produced to assist members of Human Research Ethics Committees (HRECs) in the evaluation of the ethical acceptability of research proposals involving humans. The Handbook also assisted researchers to design and conduct ethically sound research.

The Handbook provided guidance on the interpretation and application of the NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Research involving Humans (1999).

The Handbook had three parts:

  • A Commentary on the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Research Involving Humans;
  • A Research Ethics Collection; and
  • A Research Law Collection.

The Handbook was intended for use by members of HRECs and researchers, research participants, students, research administrators and the public.
