Synopsis

(Series on clinical management problems in the elderly No. 5.)

Incontinence and the older person focuses on the pathophysiology, assessment, and management of incontinence. Urinary incontinence disproportionately affects older people. Sufferers commonly delay seeking help despite the major effect on their quality of life and that of their families. It is estimated that about 850,000 adult Australians are affected. The personal and financial costs to society are great.

The paper is targeted at general practitioners and health professionals.
