NHMRC is conducting public consultation on the draft National Protocol for Donation after Cardiac Death, developed by NICS on behalf of the Australian Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation Authority. We invite you to make a submission.
This protocol aims to harmonise the recommendations of three (3) documents in current use in Australia with respect to Donation after Cardiac Death. These documents include (and can be downloaded from their respective websites):
- The ANZICS Statement on Death and Organ Donation (Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society 2008)
- Organ Donation after Cardiac Death: NSW Guidelines (New South Wales Health 2007)
- Organ and Tissue Donation after Death, for Transplantation (NHMRC 2007)

The development of this draft protocol follows work undertaken by NHMRC in the provision of a range of publications relating to organ and tissue donation.

The draft protocol and detailed instructions on how to make a submission can be downloaded below. Electronic submissions are strongly preferred. If this is not possible, please make your submission in writing (preferably typed or word processed) and submit it by mail. Electronic submissions should be emailed to the address below.
Please ensure that the author of the submission and organisation (if applicable) is clearly stated. If you would like your submission to be treated as confidential, please indicate this clearly by marking the 'CONFIDENTIAL' option. Submissions may be subject to release under the Freedom of Information Act 1982. All submissions will have personal contact details removed prior to becoming publicly available on the NHMRC website.The development of this protocol is in accordance with NHMRC procedures.
