Draft consensus-based clinical practice guideline for the management of volatile substance use (VSU)

Comments are being invited on the Draft consensus-based clinical practice guideline for the management of volatile substance use (VSU). 

The purpose of this guideline is to provide practical recommendations to assist health professionals to identify, assess and treat people who use volatile substances.

The draft guideline was developed by a 16 member multidisciplinary guideline development committee, chaired by Dr Tamara Mackean, Senior Research Fellow, Centre for Aboriginal Medical and Dental Health and member of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Advisory Committee. The Committee includes representatives from key medical and social disciplines associated with the management of VSU and consumer groups.

The development of this guideline was supported by NHMRC staff at the National Institute of Clinical Studies (NICS) and funded by the Department of Health and Ageing, Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health.

The closing date for submissions is Friday 14 January 2011.

All submissions will be considered by the NHMRC and the VSU Guideline Development Committee at the end of the public consultation period.
