Developing a NHMRC Strategic Plan – a national strategy for medical research and public health research

The NHMRC is keen to ensure that the Australian community has the best opportunity to participate in developing NHMRC reports. This page lists the closed public consultations.

19 June 2009

The National Health and Medical Research Council Act 1992 requires the NHMRC to present a Strategic Plan to government on a triennial basis.  Each Strategic Plan must include a national strategy for medical research and public health research.

In preparation for the next Strategic Plan, which will cover the period January 2010 – December 2012, NHMRC has prepared a Consultation Paper setting out a draft strategy for medical research and public health research. The draft Strategy has been developed through NHMRC’s Research Committee and Council, has taken into account the recommendations of the three reviews of our research funding and peer review processes (the Bernstein and Zerhouni and Nutbeam reviews), and has been shaped by ideas and issues raised by the research and health sectors through our regular consultations.

We now invite your comments on the Draft National Strategy for Medical Research and Public Health Research.

The Consultation Paper can be downloaded below or obtained by phoning (02) 6217 9208.
