Call for Stakeholder Submissions

On 24 and 27 November 2004, the NHMRC called for submissions to inform the development of a Research Program addressing the two National Research Priority goals of Preventive Healthcare and Strengthening Australia's Social and Economic Fabric . Your contribution to this process would be highly valued.

The aim of the program is to support research that produces new knowledge and novel interpretations of existing knowledge about the mechanisms by which socio-economic disadvantage contributes to ill health and a decreased uptake of preventive care opportunities and what can be done to improve the situation. The program also aims to promote the translation of research findings into policy and practice thereby leading to improvements in health.

Submissions should be based upon issues that will add value to policy in strengthening the economic and social fabric of Australia and make a significant contribution to improving health outcomes through better policy and practice, particularly in the field of primary prevention.

Submissions should focus on identifying

  1. specific issues and/or
  2. research questions

to assist the Working Group in the process of refining the broad research themes down to more narrowly defined issues and ultimately the strategic researchable questions for which research grant applications will be invited.
