Research Support
The funding types available under the Research Support funding group are:
NHMRC Centres of Research Excellence
NHMRC’s Centres of Research Excellence (CRE) Scheme supports research which aims to improve health outcomes, and promote/or improve translation of research outcomes primarily into practice. The CRE scheme also supports researchers in capacity building activities in specific areas of need identified by NHMRC.

NHMRC Development Grants
A Development Grant provides funding support to individual researchers, research teams, or a HMR company in partnership with a researcher/s to undertake research at the early proof-of-principle or pre-seed stage.
The Scheme supports the commercial development of a product, process, procedure or service that if applied, would result in improved health care, disease prevention or provide health cost savings.

NHMRC Program Grants
The aim of this scheme is to provide support for teams of high calibre researchers to pursue broadly based collaborative research activities. The scheme is available for all research approaches relevant to better health (ie biomedical, clinical, public health or health services research).

NHMRC Strategic Awards
Through its strategic awards, the NHMRC supports health and medical research in areas which have been identified as a priority and where there is an unmet need for targeted funding. Strategic awards address priorities identified by the NHMRC as part of its triennial strategic planning process as well as those identified by the Australian Government under its National Research Priorities. They also provide a mechanism by which the NHMRC can respond to opportunities for pursuing innovative projects and national and international collaborations at the frontiers of health and medical research.
