Population Health Capacity Building Grant
Introduction
The NHMRC established the Capacity Building Grants in Population Health Research Program in 2001 as part of a wider NHMRC strategy designed to further develop population and health services research in Australia.
The objective in establishing this program was to ensure there was sufficient capacity/critical mass across the full range of population health. The program complements other funding initiatives, resulting in an increase in research output through increasing the number of high quality applications in population health across all NHMRC funding vehicles as well as other competitive funding agencies.
The grants provide flexible support to strengthen and grow established teams with a record of undertaking significant and nationally and internationally competitive research, primarily by providing salary support and developing less experienced researchers.
The Capacity Building Grant in Population Health Research teams will contribute new knowledge at a leading international level in important areas of population health research and tackle problems for which longer term stable funding is essential.
From 2002 to 2006, twenty-five grants totaling $56.6 million were awarded under this Program.
