Capacity Building Grants for Population Health and Health Services Research
Applicant Questions and Answers
Question: Could you please clarify whether an academic can hold two Capacity Building Grants?
Answer: Yes. An academic can hold more then one Capacity Building Grant. Academics can also apply for more then one Capacity Building Grant in the current round. Applicants seeking more then one grant will have to justify their time commitment to each project.
Question: The guidelines in the Advice and Instructions document stipulate at 4A.8 and 6A.8 that the list of publications in refereed journals over the past 5 years should be a maximum of 2 pages in 12 pt font, and include:
- publications arising from both NHMRC and non-NHMRC funding sources
- publications which have been published, or accepted for publication,
- papers in refereed journals in which the Chief Investigator was not co-author but which resulted from previous grants, should also be listed (eg. papers with scientists or PhDs supported by the grant as authors, but in which the CI was not an author).
Two pages is an insufficient allocation to include all the information requested. How do applicants resolve this?
The NHRMC has rescinded the page limitation for 4A.8 and 6A.8. No page limitation will apply for these sections.
Question: In several places the application form requests information over the past five or six years.
In some instances it specifies this time frame as 2002–2007, for example, 4A.12, 4A.17, 4A.19 and 6A.8. What about information from 2008?
Answer: Please include information from 2008 in the application. For questions where the time frame specified as 2002–2007, please consider the time frame to be 2003–2008.
Question: How do applicants budget for losses in purchasing power over the life of an award?
Answer: Researchers should develop a budget for their proposal at current costs and, if the project is successful, the NHMRC will apply indexation to the payments for the term of the project.
Question: On the Application form, at 6A.9 through 6A.12, should we list the Grant publications that were within the period of the grant but fall outside the Publication List period?
Answer: In the sections that are marked ‘Publications Arising (Referenced to Publication List)’ please list the publications arising from the support and, where they fall outside the period of the Publications List, mark them and explain this in a footnote.
Question: Is it appropriate to delete sections of the template that are not applicable, for example, if the section on holding patents does not apply?
Answer: Yes – sections that do not apply can be deleted.
