Please note the information on this page has been provided for historical reference purposes only.

The aim of this collaboration is to foster research in to ageing which crosses sectors, research disciplines and institutions to develop an authoritative evidence base to underpin more effective and well informed policy and practice.

Introduction

The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and Australian Research Council (ARC) are embarking on a collaborative undertaking to progress the priority goal of Ageing Well, Ageing Productively, as identified in the National Research Priorities announced by the Government in December 2002. The aim of this collaboration is to foster research in to ageing which crosses sectors, research disciplines and institutions to develop an authoritative evidence base to underpin more effective and well informed policy and practice.

To direct the development of this initiative, the NHMRC and ARC have established the Ageing Well, Ageing Productively Working Group. The Working Group, informed by the consultation and debate on ageing that has occurred in Australia and internationally over the last 18 months, have identified four research themes. The Working Group is now seeking broad stakeholder input to, and comment on, the identified themes which will assist in developing a call for targeted research.

Historical information

Call for submissions

On 4 September 2004, the National Health and Medical Research Council and the Australian Research Council called for submissions to advise and refine research themes to inform the development of a collaborative Ageing Well, Ageing Productively Research Program. Submissions should further inform the collaborative NHMRC and ARC Working Group where there are gaps in current knowledge, and where research will make a significant contribution to improve the health, care and independence of older Australians. Your contribution to this process would be highly valued.

The attached documents are provided to support and direct your submission.

  1. A copy of the advertisement Call for Stakeholder Submissions (PDF, 15KB) to be published in the national press on Saturday 4 September 2004;
