Downloading Informed Filler software in an Secure Windows environment
If you are operating in a Secure Windows environment, you may experience problems downloading the Informed Filler software. Please talk to your IT Help Desk or Systems Administrator as administrator privileges may be needed to download and install the software.
- The installation process places a file called informed.ini in the C:Windows directory. Due to security applied to the build, a non-admin user cannot write to files stored in C:Windows. When Informed Filler is invoked, it wants to write to informed.ini and, when it finds it cannot do so, it fails to load.
- This problem can be fixed without having to update the user's access level or compromising the security design of the build. Following installation, the administrator who performed the install should locate the C:Windows/informed.ini file, bring up the Properties of the file and on the Security tab change the users setting to "Modify". This will allow the necessary degree of access to that file to allow Informed Filler to function. Granting "Modify" rather than "Full Control" will prevent the file from being accidentally deleted.
- The NHMRC Project Grant Application Template file also required to use this application (gnt2009v1.9.itp) should be placed in a folder in the user's local drive rather than in with the installation files.
- Be sure to move the Start Menu/Programs/Informed Filler shortcuts from the Administrator's own profile to the All Users profile. Once moved, local users need to be added to the Security tab of the folder containing the shortcuts for them to function correctly.
